Bitcoin was created in order to exist in an adversarial environment. Misinformed hackers attacking the network is not a black swan for BTC--it's the plan. It's as predictable as state-sponsored hackers and money-minded hackers attacking the system for their various motivations. If it was that easy to be taken down, then it wouldn't be that valuable. But I suspect this would actually help harden the system and prove it's worth, so please give a go.
